Traffic noise is pretty much a constant in Malaysia. Everyone has somewhere to be and the roads are always busy as a result. Given that it was odd to realize we suddenly couldn't hear any traffic. We were sitting by the Melaka river waiting for a ferry to Deepavali celebrations and there was no car noise. It only took a second or two to realize that it wasn't that the cars had disappeared, just that they were being drowned out by something even noisier. Hundreds of birds bedding down for the night.
