Hotel Northbridge is one of my favourite Perth hotels. Perth is a very young city so hotels with some character are pretty thin on the ground. Hotel Northbridge is one of the few places with any personality owing to its construction way back in 1898 (not long ago for some places but a long time ago for Australia).
Thankfully, despite the age of the building the rooms are relatively modern and come with the facilities you would expect of a modern hotel. The decor could do with a bit of an update but that is the trade off you make for heritage charm and affordable prices.
Spa rooms are particularly common within Hotel Northbridge. If you are from Perth and are looking for an affordable place for a weekend stay with someone special this can be a good option. Be aware that the spa, and thus the shower as there is no separate shower, are both more or less in the bedroom so you may not want to stay here if you are sharing a room with anyone you do not want to see naked.
Although the hotel is not within the Perth city center itself it is close. 10 minutes walk gets you to the main restaurant and nightclub area of Northbridge. Note that this distance from central Northbridge can be a very good thing as it is a very noisy area on Friday and Saturday night. Hotel Northbridge is very quiet.
20 minutes walk gets you to Perth train station which is immediately adjacent to the Perth city center.
13 minutes walk gets you to nib Stadium. Nib stadium hosts all kinds of concerts and sporting events. It is also home to the Perth Glory (soccer) and the Western Force (rugby). If you want to attend a concert or a sporting event Hotel Northbridge could be really convenient. No need to deal with the traffic and the horrible parking situation when you can just stroll back to your hotel.
A few blocks from Hotel Northbridge is William Street. If you walk down William Street towards the city center you will find many restaurants. 6 minutes walk gets you to Viet Hoa Vietnamese Restaurant. This restaurant is not much to look at but it is a Perth institution that has been serving affordable yet extremely tasty Asian food for decades.
Hotel Northbridge is not right in the heart of the city. It is however quiet, very near some lovely restaurants, and the walking routes to the center of town are pleasant. We would stay there again.
