Red Snapper Restaurant Koh Samui Review

Sesame Crusted Seared Saku Tuna @ Red Snapper Restaurant

We went to the Red Snapper Restaurant on Chaweng Beach on Koh Samui twice in our stay on the island. The first time wasn't a very remarkable meal. However, we spoke with the manager Daniel and he invited us to come back again. So we did!

Red Snapper really is a lovely restaurant. With international chefs and management running the kitchen and front of house it feels more like a restaurant in Sydney, Australia rather than Koh Samui, Thailand.

The restaurant has three distinct sections – outdoor verandah that backs up straight on the main road of Chaweng, a lunch / band room that can be loud once the band starts up. This room also includes the bar where people are able to come in and sit around and have a drink. Then there is the fancier part that also includes the buffet gourmet salad bar.

The second time we made it to Red Snapper we sat out in the outdoor verandah area. Drinks were ordered, special mention goes to the cocktail “Red Snapper” a delicious savoury yet sweet concoction which included lemongrass, chilli, vodka. So delicious! 260 baht.

For our starters, we all ventured to the salad bar that had a variety of tempting dishes including crocodile salad, the makings of a yummy caesar salad, mozzarella and tomato salad as well as sun dried tomatoes, and various other vegetable and fruit items for salad making. It was one of the best salad bars I have had the pleasure to eat at.

Fisherman's Catch @ Red Snapper Restaurant

As there were seven of us dining at Red Snapper at the time, we almost had one of every main meal that was on offer from the menu. I had the fisherman's catch which was delicious – assorted fresh fish and seafood of the day which was served with saffron infused mashed potatoes and a coconut and fish soup – tasty, although perhaps a little too rich for my liking. This is possibly because I had been eating plain rice or noodles with a little mixed veges / chicken on top for about 6 weeks by then. 720 baht.

Pork Tenderloin Wrapped In Bacon @ Red Snapper Restaurant

Andrew had the pork tenderloin wrapped in bacon. He enjoyed this meal immensely as it was pork wrapped in more pork products! The other guests had a mixture of seared tuna, lamb shoulder, roasted duck breast and red snapper. All meals were beautifully presented, drizzled with perfect accompaning sauces. Beautiful!

Limoncello Liquid Ravioli Shot @ Red Snapper Restaurant

Finishing off our dinner, we selected Limoncello liquid ravioli shots. This was a new experience for all of us. The Red Snapper dessert menu states that the “Liquid Ravioli Shot (Ideal as a pre-dessert or digestif) is based on a molecular cocktail preparation, sphere turns into liquid in your mouth once you indulge. Choice of sambucca or limoncello” 60 baht.

To consume a ravioli, you pick up the spoon, lightly drop the ravioli into your mouth, trying not to touch the sides with your teeth. Allow the ravioli to sit on your tongue, the moisture from your mouth will penetrate the “skin” of the ravioli which will then burst the liquid in your mouth. Different! I will certainly have one of these again!

Thank you Daniel for asking us to come back again. We all really enjoyed our meals and our time at the restaurant.

We recommend you try out Red Snapper Restaurant on Chaweng Beach, Koh Samui, Thailand, when you are on the island. Location of the restaurant can be found on the map below.
